A shadow of black ran swiftly across the frozen ground surrounding the city of Shevraethe. The quick claps of hooves connecting with the ground resounded as the Arabian horse raced towards the city. Leaning towards the horse’s neck sat a young man with a look of pure joy written across his face. Flowing out behind him was a regal looking black cape, which was covered heavily with deep navy blue designs. The cloak was a new addition, he’d heard this place was cold, and figured the cape (or cloak within his bags) would suffice. Unfortunately for him the cape wouldn’t suffice what a desert dweller, such as himself, would need in such a place. Sticking out from the top of the cape were two rather personalized hilts of his twin scimitars. Navy blue tassels were strung from there pommels another sign of his heritage. For he was, as shown by his apparel, an Entenian.

Racing on the young man wore a crooked grin, and chuckled to himself as they drew near to the city. ”What do you think Niteo? Nice city isn’t it?”

Of course the horse couldn’t reply with words, but the beast knew its master’s voice, and let out a shrill, but proud whinny. Smiling all the wider the young rider patted the horses neck and answered softly, ”I thought you might say that.”

All too quickly the pair entered the streets, most riders would slow down their steeds, but this man had no such inclinations to do so. He needed to get somewhere fast, and no one in their right mind would step before a running horse. Besides, he had faith in Niteo; the horse could stop and turn on a coin, and without hesitation at that. He trusted that horse more then most people.

Thankfully there was no need for crazy maneuvers or neck wrenching stops. The city streets were relatively empty and they continued on their way without stopping. The young man didn’t quite know where he was going, but he had an idea… Go to the richest part of town and look for guest housing… he thought to himself. That would be where he needed to go. So he looked up within the city, and spotted the large staircase that lead up into Inclemency. As soon as his deep blue eyes rested their gaze upon those icicle adorned palaces he knew that was his destination.

Sooner then expected they arrived exactly where they needed to be, Inclemency. Looking up in awe the Entenian saw, for the first time in his life, icicles hanging from the proud tower and citadel. Looking back down his eyes widened in shock, he was where he needed to be. “Niteo!” was all he had to shout to make his large black horse come to as fast a stop as possible. Niteo made no other movement, only held his head proudly and stood as still as stone.

The Entenian however was looking at who they had almost run into. He had to laugh at himself even if this wasn’t exactly the correct time. Trying to stifle his chuckles he dismounted with practiced grace and then turned back to the others. Grinning his crooked smile he kept a hand on his horse’s shoulder and conjured the best bow he could. After all he’d never been taught to bow…and one had to pay respects to the Marquis. The Entenian had literally, almost run into Lucien and whoever the other nobles with him were. Rising from the bow he remained grinning, it was too ironic that he was searching for Lucien, and then pop! There he was, even if he had nearly killed him…

“Andrzej Rochir, representing the Mikado of Entenpayne, overseer of the Oniyan desert, at your service.” And with that he also took out the crumpled invitation from his pocket and handed it to Lucien. Then, not knowing what else to do, he leaned against Niteo’s side as he normally did, not thinking that this wasn’t the proper way to address a Marquis.

Honnon listened intently to the words he heard. He searched for an explanation of what had been going on. All the while he kept a firm hand on Anei’s back to insure the demon cat would not move from his side. Honnon could tell quite a few things from the circumstances as they had passed him by.

Then a man’s voice was heard using the term ‘Princess’. This had told Honnon that there was indeed royalty about. The man was very courteous with his words leading Honnon to the conclusion that this man was also a noble of some sort. However, he did not recognize the voice. Honnon continued to listen for others in the conversation.

He listened carefully when he heard another enter and introduce his sister. This told Honnon exactly who the two were. The Duke and Duchess had entered the scene. He listened as the man gave his condolences to…That was when it clicked into his mind. His usually observant thoughts were interrupted with something he had missed. Lucien Shevrethae, the new Marquis. He had dropped the information about the Duke and Duchess after this and moved on to more important matters.

Before he had finished his thoughts when a man there, from before Honnon had entered in, spoke. This man finished his words and left. This had been nothing important and the information was discarded quickly. The first voice then spoke once more. Honnon now knew this was Lucien. He heard more courtesy from the man as he responded to the Duke and Duchess. With a shake of his head a thought had passed through Honnon’s mind. I could never be so respectful to everyone I met and saw. To have so many watching would be irritating, He had told himself.

More light conversation was heard. Nothing of interest or with more information worth hearing was said. Soon conversation was directed at leaving and moving elsewhere. Knowing this was his time to do something Honnon had rose, his alchemy forgotten, and directed his Demon pet to walk forward. He was not sure where he was going but he knew he would make it there. He always ended up where he needed to be. Saying nothing he left Monomania to wander the city.

Lucien

His hand placed atop of the Duchess’s as her slender fingers wrapped around the expensive black fabric. Another one of those odd, eyeless smiles and he nodded. Lucien began to lead the three down the bazaar. His mind was going over the millions of details of the weeks to come, and I doing so the conversation slowed; a rarity for the Marquise. He was glad, however, that the fiery-tongued woman picked it again.

”I’m sure the Marquise thanks you for the compliment. As for her, she’s a strong woman. The support of you and yours, and the Princess will me most assuring—she arrived this morning with her mother and father, and will be staying in the same residence as well. As I’m sure you can agree, having something to do helps ease the pain, and we’re no where close to being able to rest just yet. But let’s not talk of politics, shall we? I’m sure she has a fine tea prepared already.”

His gaze slipped over to the Duke. ”In truth, we got so few replies to the invitations that I’m not sure who will be in attendance or not. Nevertheless, your company is most welcomed and appreciated.”

It was at this point that a horse came barreling down the street. Quick to catch the fast movement, Lucien dropped the Duchess’s arm and pushed her into her brother. He, himself, leapt the other way. The horse came to a stop right where they had been standing. A slow anger boiled up inside the Marquise, something that was never good for one who had such a terribly cold-blooded anger problem. Of course, practiced precision hid all from eye.

Lucien sidestepped the horse, a hand placed around the woman. ”My dear Duchess, I hope I didn’t harm you…”

Eyes shifted to the man who was chuckling, dismounting. His eyes narrowed at the grinning man; he looked like a fool. It was clear that he was in distaste. ”Am I then to assume that the Mikado is not to attend? And if that is the case, then you may be sure that you’ve represented his entrance as a fool—you owe an apology to the Duchess Alissar.”

He offered no formal courtesy to the man. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw the man and the strange creature leave the marketplace and made a mental note to find out who he was, and what his friend was.

Elin

"It is good that both Lady Savanlee and you are keeping busy. I remember-"

Her voice was broken by Lord Shevrethae's push. The sudden stampede of both rider and horse had startled the Duchess. Thankfully, her brother Erun had been quick to catch her light frame and keep her from falling to the ground. With a shaky grin directed at the ivory-haired man, she turned back towards the Marquis.

"Hurt? Oh no, Lord Shevrethae. Thank you for being so quick to act. If it had not been for you, our meeting would have been shortened considerably." There was a self-mocking tone to her voice; Elin was teasing herself for being scared in the first place. Still, there were still glints of fear in her eyes, hardening the grey to steely silver and the purple to stone amethyst. Erun placed his hands on the woman's shoulders, almost steering her away from both the Marquis and this dangerous newcomer. A protective expression on his face, it was clear that the man wasn't exactly pleased with how this arrangement was turning out.

"I hope this sort of reckless riding is not a regular pasttime." His deep timbre of a voice was stern and admonishing as the hard grey eyes bore down upon the Entenian. Elin turned around to glare at her brother, as if to say "I'm sure it was an accident!". He merely crossed his arms and looked at her with an annoying stare that older brothers perfect over the years.

Pushing himself from the back of his horse Andrzej stood on his own. It suddenly didn’t seem right to him to lean back when all this nobility was obviously disgusted with his appearance. Not much could dampen the young man’s cheerfulness, but he definitely wasn’t pleased about misrepresenting the Mikado. His sapphire eyes studied Lucien curiously, the young man didn’t seem much older then he. The young Marquis had acted quickly, and he was of noble standing. The Entenian could also tell that Lucien was not in the least pleased with him.

Thinking over the situation in his mind Andrzej could tell that he himself would be very upset if the same thing had happened to him. So the Entenian decided to correct his previous mistakes as best he could. So he stood taller, holding himself in as 'noble' a way as he could conjure. He then turned, his blue eyes void of the twinkle they had held before, and he bowed. This time bowing without fumble or flourish while keeping his eyes looking locked onto the ground while he spoke.

”You have my deepest and most sincere apology Duchess Alissar. I regret ever endangering you…” Lifting himself slowly from the bow he turned to Lucien next, ”Or any of the people here on the street…I should not have been so naive as to think I could race on Niteo like I do within the desert.” He said not betraying the fact that he raced within his own city that way, people knowing full well that riders used the streets just as much as themselves. He was tempted to add that no one was truly in danger and that his horse had successfully stopped in time, but figured that to proud a statement, and he had his, or rather the Mikado's, reputation to fix and uphold. With this new thought he added, "Please don't let this incident cloud your thoughts on the Mikado. I'm less learned in the ways of nobility then him and would like to repair my first impression, if only for his sake." With this statement true shame shown through the Entenian’s eyes. The last thing he had wanted to do was to appear a fool while representing the Mikado, and this he wanted Lucien to know. Think Andrzej Rochir a fool, but not his Mikado.

Turning his still fallen eyes to meet the hard grey gaze of the other man the Entenian felt his own gaze harden. He’d seen looks like the one he was receiving, and immediately knew he treaded on dangerous ground. This man was obviously the brother of the Duchess, and would probably hold a grudge against him no matter what he did. Still the man’s comment hit home, and Andrzej was not one to take a stab at his riding as it was something near and dear to him. “Reckless riding sir? I assure you it was nothing of the sort. What happened here was an accident; I was momentarily distracted by the beauty of the citadel up there. Thankfully Niteo here always keeps his eyes on his path. I assure you my horse would never trample anything but earth and my riding is anything but reckless despite what has been shown.” Zej ended with a rather hard tone befitting the own glare held by his eyes. He did not care for jabs as to how he rode, and wouldn’t suffer the comments without some slight retort. Sure he had the reputation of the Mikado to uphold, but he had his own as well, and anyone insulting his riding wouldn't go without a slight retort.

Lucien

He nodded his head, glad that the Duchess was uninjured. Imagine the gossip if he'd twisted her ankle or something of the sort! Vision skipped to the Duke, however, and noted the displeasure at the circumstances. He'd have to remember that. Perhaps they'd get along afterwards. He was much the same towards his own sister, if only to uphold their family honour. eyesight followed the flow and moved back towards the man, if a fool may be called a man. He was getting defensive.

The Ambassador straightened up, gathering any dignity left. His apology was elabourate, but not eloquent. Naive? Hardly. More like careless enough to endanger lives. Obviously his riding was not as high as he thought himself. Even a fine horse such as his can be fouled up by a poor rider. Lucien's own horses would not be so ill behaved in a public market. And as for his thoughts on the Mikado; it was poor respect not to attend a nation furnal or a political event. And to choose a man so poorly educated as your representative was a bad call as well.

Still, first impressions were not always ones to go on.

"Try not to be so easily distracted, then, when you're in a position to endanger my guests and people. Even an Entenian horse can be broken." He replied, offering his arm to the Duchess again. Lucien neither dissuaded nor accepted the apology, but left it at that. "Rochir, was it? We were headed to Inclemency for tea and to get situated in rooms. You will be staying in the residence, yes?"

Back to buisness, as usual. Forgive {or appear to}, but never forget.

Andrzej remained still, knowing that he had done all he could. He’d messed up, he knew that much, but what was with all this noble stuff? Within his life he was used to riding in the desert and having fun in the streets. He sometimes attended formal events at the Mikado’s palace, but they were nothing like this. Perhaps it was because this was a funeral, but he highly doubted that.

Lucien, it seemed, had been born and raised for the position of Marquis. A very different lifestyle then the Entenian had ever known, or actually wanted. He didn’t want to act like these other nobles, all polite and…well…couldn’t greetings be joyful? Then again he could’ve ruined that by nearly running them down. Curse the moment he thought it’d be fun to ride quickly through the streets. Hearing once more another slight, though aggravatingly polite, rebuke Zej nodded once.

“I was planning on staying there. So if you’re headed that way do you mind if I accompany you? I promise there will be no more reckless riding through the streets.” He finished with his normal crooked grin. Mumbling under his breath he spoke in a tone only audible to himself, “Won’t do anything most likely.” As he mumbled he turned back to his horse, and took its reins. Bringing them down over Niteo’s head he held them at his side. If the nobles planned on walking there he would walk as well, with Niteo trailing behind.

Damien saw the elf maiden being pushed aside and the rider stopping quickly. The woman looked all right, for the most part, if not a little shaken. But nothing to get alarmed over. He glanced around, taking in his surroundings once more. The Entenian that had arrived on horseback, a man with a panther-like creature following him, the Count, the Marquis, a young woman cloaked in dark green, and the two elves were there. Not that many new arrivals save for about two or so.

Damien just weaved his way though the Monomania and stopped presently a distance away from the Marquis. He would stay a distance away from him for a time. Though his eyes fell on the Entenian. He'd been in that desert for....how long was it? One year? Or was it two? But, all the same, he looked familiar to him. It wasn't like he knew the man, but he stilled seemed to ring a bell in the young man's memory.

{This thread is too old. My fault, sorry guys. Let it be assumed that they headed to Inclemency.}
